Poetry Terms

Sound Devises:

1. Rhyme: using the same vowel and constant sound at the end of two words
2. Repetition: using the same word or phrase more than once
3. Alliteration: using the same constant at the beginning of words



Devices:

1. Symbol is an object, person, or idea that stands for something beyond itself
2. Imagery: using words to help us picture an image
3. Figurative Language (metaphor, simile, personification): a way of saying the same thing but in a different way



Forms and Purpose:

1. Narrativetells a story
2. Ballad (Narrative) poem that tells a story
3. Lyric Poem
